Philanthropy in service of the student experience is a hallmark of the Flintridge Prep family, and the 2017 benefit, Flintridge Fever – Let’s Groove Tonight, upped the ante by adding a palpable level of fun. The biennial benefit was the grooviest disco fest of the year. Hosted at Vibiana, the stunning event space in downtown Los Angeles, it was clear when the first of the nearly 400 guests began to arrive that the night would be extraordinary.
Every guest embraced the 1970s disco theme, dressed in their best disco threads as they sipped cocktails and bid on silent auction items. As the evening continued, attendees enjoyed a live auction hosted by parents Phil LaMarr and Phill Lewis. After dinner, some guests relaxed in the after-hours lounge, while others danced the night away on a light-up dance floor inspired by Saturday Night Fever.
When the glitter settled and all the accounting was done, benefit co-chairs Monique Stevens and Christine Lee discovered that the event had raised $388,000 for the school, outpacing previous benefit fundraising efforts by a wide margin. The funds will be used to support the school’s upcoming atrium project outside the recently renovated Norris Auditorium that will transform the space into a light-filled, art-filled gathering place for the whole community, and particularly students, to enjoy.
Parents Juliana and Stephen Erdody, whose son, Daniel, graduated in 2016, were honored at the benefit for their service to the school. In their speech, they highlighted the very essence of generosity that led to the benefit’s record-breaking success.
“In our experience, volunteer work breeds generosity and optimism, and as parents, our example brings these concepts to life for our children, who are primed by our example to carry on the volunteer cycle. This part of ourselves that we give to others through volunteerism is an expression of our personal passions and interests, and this work becomes a piece of our legacy,” Juliana and Steven noted.
