Flintridge Prep Girls Softball Holds Off Mayfield in Nail-Biting Win
Girls softball came back after last week’s loss in a big way. Strong pitching and fielding set the stage for a win, and Maia Cohen’s (’17) home run and incredible diving catch held off a determined Mayfield with a 3-1 final score. Baseball had an explosive win this week against Rio Hondo, with a 9-0 final tally. They followed it up with a tie 3-3 against Glendale, bringing their overall record to 8-3-1. Boys and girls swim both had a successful week, with each team bringing home a League victory at last week’s meet against Webb.
Golf lost its match against Poly this week, but they move forward looking strong and taking on Chadwick and Firebaugh, who they recently defeated, next week. Tennis crushed the competition in a huge 18-0 versus Firebaugh, and boys volleyball continues on strong with an 8-2 record and three victories in a row, 3-0 versus Webb, 3-2 versus Rio Hondo and 3-0 versus Firebaugh.
Track and Field participated in the LA County Championships at Warren this week. Highlights included a 6th place finish for mens 4×400 relay and 9th place 4×100 relay finish. The girls had several successes, including a 2nd place finish for Hanna Barakat ’17 in the 200 meter and 2nd for Sasha Codiga ’19 in the 1600 meter and 3rd in the 800 meter. They look next to the Tiger Invitational in South Pasadena.
