Flintridge Prep Hires New Assistant Athletic Director and Head Football Coach

After a careful search for the right fit, Flintridge Prep has appointed Russell White as the school’s new assistant athletic director and head varsity football coach.

Russell White is a graduate of Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, where he led the football team to a state championship. White was a consensus first team All-American during his three years as leading running back for UC Berkeley, graduating in 1993. In 2003, he was elected to the University Hall of Fame. A third-round pick in the 1993 NFL draft, he played for the Rams in 1993-1994.

Following his NFL retirement, White was the athletic director and head football coach of the eight-man Desert Chapel High School football team, leading the Eagles to bac-to-back CIF Division titles in 2002 and 2003. Most recently, he served as the commissioner of the Oakland section of CIF.

“In our meetings with Coach White, we found him to be devoted to all the values we cherish in football: courage, hard work, teamwork and fun,” said Flintridge Prep headmaster Peter Bachmann.

Athletic Director Garrett Ohara noted that Coach White will come to campus in the coming weeks to get to know the football team.

“Other staffing decisions for football are still in the works,” Ohara said.

In December, Flintridge Prep announced that beginning in the fall 2016 season, the football team would make a permanent shift from 11-man football to 8-man football. The shift coincides with the school’s creation of a Memorial Field, which will host home games in soccer, football and softball and will honor the memory of several beloved athletes and coaches.
