Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy Senior Maddie Collins Earns Debate Awards

Senior Maddie Collins represented Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (FSHA) at the Harvard-Westlake Debate Tournament over the weekend. One hundred sixteen high school varsity debaters, including several of the highest ranking debaters in the country, competed in the tournament. Maddie represented FSHA by placing in the top 32 as a double-octafinalist and was awarded the 19th speaker.

Maddie competed against larger teams with more experienced debaters and coaches. In her final round, Maddie faced the fifth ranked debater in the country. The three judges who paneled this last round commended her for her success despite the inherent challenge of competing from a smaller school. Joining Maddie, the only varsity competitor from FSHA, were freshmen, Christine Nguyen and Michelle Liu, who competed as novices.
