Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy Swim Makes League History, Wins All 22 Championship Events

Varsity and JV swim made league history when they became the first school ever to win all 22 events at a league championship meet at the Mission League finals for swim and diving on April 28 and 29.

The girls earned the titles for the third year in a row at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, where the Mission League finals were held for the first time. Varsity easily took first place with 697 points compared to Harvard-Westlake, which placed second with 482.

“We had every single Tolog swimmer and diver make it back to finals after the prelims meet,” said Coach Steve Bergen. “This is the first time in school history this was achieved.”

The swimmers set seven school and meet records. Junior Kirsten Vose broke both the school and meet records in the 100 freestyle, and the record in the 400 freestyle relay with Katie Altmayer ’14, Kate Herrill ’16 and Caitlin Smith ’17.

Altmayer, Vose and Herrill also each won two individual titles while Smith and Christina Cambell ’17 each earned one.

“We will graduate 18 girls from the Class of 2014, and they have led us through the greatest thee-year stretch in school history,” said Coach Bergen.

Diver Caroline Bender took her third consecutive Mission League championship with 355.4 points at the diving finals.

Varsity ended its season undefeated, posting a 7-0 record overall and 5-0 in league. The Tologs qualified for CIF Division I championships on May 13-17 in 12 individual events and every relay.

The combined talents of Christina Campbell ‘17, Kirsten Vose ‘15, Katie Altmayer ‘14 and Kate Herrill ‘16 won the 200-yard medley relay for the second year in a row at the CIF Div. 1 championship at Riverside Community College on May 17.

Overall, the Tologs finished 6th, moving up one spot from last season.
