Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy’s Catherine Condit ’18 and Soraya Cordero ’18 were chosen to represent La Cañada in its fledgling Sister Cities program, along with students from other area high schools. Cat traveled to Spain this summer on exchange and is pictured here meeting the mayor of Villanueva de la Cañada. Eva (center), from the same town, stayed with Cat’s family for two weeks earlier this summer. Soraya Cordero will attend the Sister Cities International Youth Leadership Summit in Virginia Beach.

The Sister Cities program began in the 1950s under President Dwight Eisenhower as a service organization that helps pair cities in the United States with like-minded cities in other countries. Sister Cities engage in cultural, professional and educational exchanges. La Cañada established a chapter just one year ago and has been paired with Villanueva de la Cañada in Spain and another, soon to be announced, city in Spain.
