This week four Blair IBDP 11th Grade students are at the IB World Student Conference on the campus of George Washington University in Washington DC.

The theme for this year’s conference is Student Activism and Social Justice in a Global Context. Students spend part of their time working as small Global Action Teams. Each team works during the week to create an action plan, with the goal to implement that plan when they return to their home IB schools.

Students also spend time at Plenary Sessions with invited speakers including Sara Tomas (director of the World Wildlife Fund), Callie Hawkins (adult advisor to Students Opposing Slavery at Lincoln’s Cottage), and Shaun King (activist and humanitarian).

Their free time is filled with social mixers and sightseeing in Washington DC.

The students are reporting that it is an exhausting but rewarding experience. Just being surrounded by other IBDP students is rewarding! Blair High School hopes that the school’s attendance will continue in the years to come!
