High Point Academy is proud to announce that Gary Stern, Head of School, has been selected to receive a University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award! Every year, the University of Chicago gives newly admitted students the opportunity to recognize the educators who have made a difference in their lives. And every year, over a third of the incoming class responds with stories that are inspiring. The University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award recognizes all teachers who are nominated, highlighting the stories that show education’s power to transform.
Charlie Koudsi writes of Mr. Stern.
“Thank you so much for the tremendous impact you have had on my life. I will never forget getting pulled out of class in first grade so that you could administer and ERB test to me even though I didn’t know how to fill in the bubbles on the Scantron. Thank you so much for recognizing that I was gifted and taking the time to challenge me. I will always cherish our lunches. While I was often bored and unchallenged by the typical school day, I knew that I could count on our lunch meeting to be a stimulating conversation about a topic I was passionate about: stocks. I believe these conversations are part of the reason I am choosing to pursue an Economics major at the university of Chicago. I cannot begin to thank you enough for the difference you made in my life.”
From the University of Chicago:
“Students at the University of Chicago are intelligent, highly motivated, and committed to using their gifts for serious academic work. We are dedicated to excellence in teaching, such as yours, and we know that true learning is a collaborative experience that depends as much on the dedication of the teacher as it does on the motivation of the student. Thank you for your commitment to this endeavor.”
The High Point Community congratulates Mr. Stern on this prestigious award! High Point Academy is an independent, co-educational kindergarten through 8th grade school nestled in the beautiful foothills of Pasadena, dedicated to “Awakening the Joy of Learning” in every student.
