Gooden School Halloween Activities For UNICEF

Gooden School has long been affiliated with UNICEF, and to celebrate this partnership, the school will be hosting a Halloween Costume Parade to benefit the United Nations General Assembly mandated advocacy.

Halloween at Gooden School will be a casual dress day and service-oriented day to support UNICEF and the first-grade Service-Learning project. In the morning, students are invited to take part in a pumpkin contest, where students vote for their favorite entries by dropping coins into UNICEF boxes.

In the afternoon, all Gooden students (K – 8th grade) will put on costumes for a Halloween parade. There will also be guessing games and a bake sale this month of October, where all proceeds will benefit UNICEF.

UNICEF advocates the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic need and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF strives to establish children’s rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behavior towards children.

The Service-Learning project is the Gooden School’s way of teaching its students the importance of community service, and is designed to go beyond the traditional. It is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction in all subject areas, and provides reflection to enrich the learning experience.

Aside from its Service-Learning projects with UNICEF, in recent years Gooden School students have been involved with the American Heart Association, Episcopal Relief and Development, Friends in Deed Food Pantry, Hillsides Home for Children, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Monte Vista Grove Homes, Opportunity International, Pasadena Humane Society, Ronald McDonald House, Susan G. Komen, and Race for the Cure.

Continuing its fine tradition of teaching students to be responsible community members, this Halloween is no exception and the activities set for October 31 will surely bring joy to all, while raising awareness to what’s truly important.
