High Point Academy’s Student Council Winter Service Project

The Student Council led its Winter Service Project on Monday, December 16th. This project included four stations that provided opportunities for the students to engage in meaningful service to their High Point community and local charitable organizations. The students traveled within their advisory groups to the different stations around the school and worked on a variety of projects from baking to cleaning.

The first station involved wrapping gifts that the students had donated to the Kid-Fit Christmas Families project. Every year, this company organizes a gift-giving project, serving needy and deserving families. As part of the Winter Service Project, Junior High families signed up to donate gifts on the children’s wish lists. During the Winter Service project, the High Point students wrapped these gifts and prepared for delivery to Kif-Fit.

Another station involved campus clean-up and improvement projects, spearheaded by our own Director of Facilities, Mr. Victor Mejia. From laying down wood chips to securing artificial hedge vines and cleaning trash on the field, the students worked together to finish projects that if done alone, would have taken hours.

Anyone passing the teacher’s lounge on Monday afternoon was drawn in to the kitchen area by the delicious smells of baked goods. Although they smelled good enough to eat, the kids were baking dog treats for the Pasadena Humane Society. A special thanks to Mrs. Theresa Chesshir for teaching the kids to bake delicious and healthy snacks for our furry friends at the Pasadena Humane Society.

Finally, Student Council members led students in creating catnip toys for the cats of the Pasadena Humane Society. Who knew a sock, cotton, and some catnip could be so fun?

Overall, the Student Council Winter Service Project was a big success. The students engaged in hands-on service learning and made a difference in their community. Most importantly, they helped others!
