Huntington Hospital Hosts Open House for Local Students

Huntington Hospital hosted an educational open house for teens from all over the San Gabriel Valley, including, Eagle Rock, Pasadena, San Marino and Arcadia, sharing the benefits and technical aspects of robotic surgery.

On Saturday, January 23, Huntington Hospital hosted an open house for local high school students. The event, led by Armen H. Dikranian, MD, urologic surgeon and medical director of robotic surgery at Huntington Hospital with the support of David Lourie, MD, director, bariatric surgery program, educated the teens about the benefits and technical aspects of robotic surgery and allowed each student to conduct simulations using Huntington Hospital’s da Vinici Surgical Systems, a robotic surgical system designed to facilitate complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach.

It’s hard for someone to be exposed to robotics technology and not like it,” said Dikranian. “This is a wonderful opportunity to show these bright students cutting edge robotics in the surgical environment. Huntington Hospital is extremely fortunate to have three da Vinci Robots thanks in large part to the generous support of our donors. This event is a great way to showcase this technology and its clinical benefits to our community.”

Over 24 teens attended the event from all over the San Gabriel Valley, including, Eagle Rock, Pasadena, San Marino and Arcadia. “I like the machinery and I’m excited to come check it out,” said Polytechnic High School student, Austin Yu, who is also a volunteer at Huntington Hospital.
