Immaculate Heart High School’s Varsity and Junior Varsity Cross Country Teams dominated the Sunshine League by both winning three-mile races at league finals at Crescenta Valley Park.

Having gone undefeated this season with a 12-0 record, IH Varsity runners turned in yet another impressive first place performance Wednesday, October 31, to snag the Sunshine League Championship title.

Immaculate Heart’s top six Varsity runners received patches for being named to the 1st Team All Sunshine League. Recognized were Violet Marko (2nd place runner), Maddie Creasey (4th), Daisy Salinas (5th), Orla Hladky (6th), Victoria Leahy (9th) and Kerrigan Riley (11th). All six plus Varsity teammate Nico Kachikas will now advance to the CIF-SS Cross Country Prelims on Saturday, November 10, in Riverside. Also accompanying the team as alternates will be IH runners Emily Alonso, Laura Gulbinas and Lilah Sitkevich.

Emily Alonso led all 23 runners in the Sunshine League’s JV finals race. Following closely on Alonso’s heels were teammates JaJa Riley (2nd place), Laura Gulbinas (3rd), Lilah Sitkevich (6th), Julie Deras (7th), Alice Lee (8th) and Isabelle Newson (9th). The JV Team’s first place finish and league title capped a successful season with a 11-1 record.

Immaculate Heart congratulates both teams and their coaches – Varsity Coach Vivian Ochoa and JV Coach Lauren Noble – for their hard work and winning efforts.
