Yesterday, La Salle hosted the Regional Round for the World Scholars Cup. Congratulations to La Salle’s very own Academic Decathlon Team and their multitude of awards and accomplishments.
The biggest award of the night was garnered by the team of Joshua Ng, Long Lin, and Jackie Henley which won first place for the Team Event for the competition. 51 teams competed in the senior division and not only did La Salle students win first place but they also took 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 10th.
For overall individual medals (among 150+ students), the highest Lancer was Jackie Henley who finished 2nd, followed by 5th (Cristina de la Cruz), 6th (Katie Nuzzi), 7th (Sam Grijalva), 8th (Kate Mena), and 9th (Evelyn Ogier) to round out the top ten.
The best overall award for collaborative writing went to Cristina de la Cruz with Evelyn Ogier finishing close behind in 3rd.
In the overall Scholar’s Challenge, essentially a multiple choice test from hell, the team of Katie Nuzzi, Kees Hood, and Kate Mena was the champion of that discipline with Josh Ng, Long Lin, and Jackie Henley finishing 3rd.
Mark Camarena scored the highest mark for the Social Studies part of the test while Katie Nuzzi scored the highest mark for Literature as well as the Special Area
