Longfellow Elementary Hosts ‘Walk to School Day’

Longfellow Elementary School will host this year’s annual “Nutrition, Health and Walk to School Week” Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2015 sponsored by the Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) Nutrition Education Obesity Prevention Program. The annual walk promotes physical activity, improved pedestrian safety and healthy eating habits. Students, parents and teachers will be joined by elected officials, school district and city officials.

Celebrated nationally, the event focuses on the benefits of walking rather than driving to school, creating cleaner, safer, and environmentally healthy school routes that allows parents to spend more time with their children, reduces car use and traffic hazards, promotes physical activity, and contributes to a safer community.

It will be a fun morning with activities and a resource fair for the school community. The walk begins at 7:10 a.m. at the McDonald Park basketball courts (1000 Mountain Dr., Pasadena) and ends at Longfellow Elementary School (1065 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena). Community partners will have information and displays on physical activity, health and nutrition education.
