Maranatha Boys Tennis vs San Gabriel Halted at 5-1 Due to Rain

Seven minutes of rain during warm-ups delayed the start of today’s match versus the Matadors of San Gabriel by about an hour. After drying off the courts, play commenced with the Minutemen taking a commanding 5-1 lead after the first round.

Doubles swept, led once again by #2 doubles, Billy Tan and Jake Scott, who won, 6-1. #1 Matthew Leiva and Michael Mathews had a battle early on, initially playing from behind early in the set. From 3-3, Leiva/Mathews were able to pull out the clutch sudden-death points, giving them a 6-3 win. #3 Tim Huang/Jordan Miao had the opposite experience, charging to a 3-0 lead in Miao’s first start. Their opponents made a run to make it 3-2, but then Huang/Miao were able to pull away and close out the set, 6-3.

#1 singles, Daniel Guan, held on to a tough, 6-4 victory against their #1, while #2 JP Collins had an easy time of the #2, 6-0. #3 Nico Engling stumbled in his first set, being outworked and losing, 2-6.

The match is set to continue on March 21, with the Minutemen ahead, 5-1.
