Dominican Republic Team Day 1: Since the Dominican Republic Missions Team (DR Team) arrived at the hotel in the Dominican Republic after 2:00 a.m., Maranatha’s mission team got to sleep in a bit before heading to Mission Emanuel to get acquainted with the staff, the summer volunteer leaders, and walk around the village of Cielo where some team members will be helping to build a couple houses over the next week.
But Saturday, July 1st was really about the team getting acclimated and learning more about the wonderful people of Cielo, playing with children they met in the streets, and even shooting hoops in the mission’s new gymnasium. (Some local kids took one look at Jesse’s height and immediately challenged him to a game!).
An intermittent summer storm cooled the DR members just a bit and made for spectacular cloudy skies. The team got to hang out back at the hotel in the afternoon, and enjoy a group dinner for more bonding with the Mission Emanuel staff (who, by the way, are simply awesome).
