Maranatha Speech and Debate Team Excels at the State Qualification Tournament

Last Friday, the Maranatha Debate Team competed in the annual California State Qualification Debate Tournament at Cal State Long Beach in Lincoln Douglas style debate. The topic for this tournament was, “the right to housing in the United States.” Cameron Chen ‘17, Joel Lee ‘18, and Mitchell Yeh ‘18 represented the Minutemen in a ten-hour tournament that featured Cameron Chen in the final round. Cameron finished 4-2 overall and had the best record for Maranatha in a State Qualification tournament since Selina Schweitzer ‘11 competed in the same category for Maranatha in 2010.

Speech and Debate coach Pat Mesisca ’92 said, “Cameron has worked hard all year and has demonstrated a competitive spirit that motivates me as a coach. I look forward to seeing how her high school Speech and Debate experience and strong work ethic benefit her at the college level.” Congratulations are in order for all their achievements over this exciting weekend.
