Maranatha High School recently welcomed the mothers of the incoming freshman class to the annual Incoming Mothers’ Luncheon, held under a tent in front of the beautiful Ambassador Auditorium. With this event, the school helped incoming moms get to know each other and learn what to expect as their students enter high school. The guests also had the opportunity to hear from two freshmen students, a senior student, and a current mom, all offering words of wisdom and support as the Class of 2020 moms start their own high school journey next year.

In their own way, each speaker gave their “mom’s guide to freshmen year”. Freshman Leannah Baretto shared what the freshman year looks like from a student perspective. Her fellow freshman, Jake Anderson, had the moms laughing as he reminisced on the countless ways his mom supported his schooling with such bonding times as last minute runs to Michael’s for that diorama that was due the next day. After all the laughs, he offered his thoughtful advice for the moms as they enter a new phase of schooling. Senior Regina Pullens then reflected on her four years at MHS as her time is coming to a close.

And finally, current freshman parent Sloan Walsh shared both the heart and the science behind parenting a teenager. She shared what she wished she knew becoming a mom of a high schooler and encouraged new moms who are beginning the journey of watching their students’ transition to adulthood. Maranatha’s Director of Admissions Jennifer Zambrano said, “Our annual Incoming Moms’ Lunch is always a special time of connection and welcoming for our new moms. Starting high school is exciting and emotional, and this event gives moms a chance to acknowledge that and meet friends they can share this journey with.”
