Mayfield Junior School: A Celebration of Unique Cultures

Mayfield Junior School students, parents and teachers participated in an International Heritage Fair on January 29. The full day event, organized by MJS teacher Myv Hopton and parent volunteers, was the perfect finale to MJS Mosaic Month, which celebrated the diversity within the school community with daily reflections and lessons throughout January.

The International Heritage Fair was like a mini world tour with colorful booths created and hosted by parents and several students highlighting different countries such as Lebanon, Ethiopia, Mexico, Italy, China, Indonesia, Haiti, Venezuela, Jordan, Japan and Sweden. Each booth offered samples of clothing, food and traditions reflective of the culture and history of each country. A highlight this year was the addition of cultural dance performances in the afternoon.

From the tasty food samples to the personal stories and information shared with pride by each of the parent and student volunteers, the International Heritage Fair was the best of both worlds- educational and fun!
