Mayfield Junior School: A Lesson on Public Speaking

Has everyone made a New Year’s resolution to improve their public speaking skills? Mayfield Junior School’s 6th graders may just have a few good tips! As part of their drama class curriculum for the fall semester, students learned techniques and strategies to boost confidence and deal with feelings of fear or anxiety when speaking before a crowd, presenting in class or acting on stage.

Through writing and performing both planned and impromptu speeches on multiple topics for a variety of audiences, students acquired a “toolbox” of strategies including principles for effective communication and the benefits of practice and preparation to become effective and dynamic speakers. The kids even shared their tips with the senior administration. Hear all they learned in this short video!
