Mayfield Junior School: A Visit with Thomas Jefferson

With silver buckled shoes and reddish-brown wig, actor Mr. Dale Reynolds, presented a passionate and very human portrayal of our third president, Thomas Jefferson to 8th grade history classes last week. He discussed elections and governance in his time, and allowed the students to ask personal questions about the contradictions within his views and actions on slavery, his relationship with John Adams and his motivation surrounding the Louisiana Purchase. In his presentation he also challenged the eighth graders to consider their importance as future voters and to not take their ability to affect change lightly.

After his performance as Founding Father, Mr. Reynolds also visited one drama class. He spoke briefly about his life as an actor and led the class in some “method” acting exercises.
