Mayfield Junior School Loves Reading! Book Fair 2014

Book Fair 2014 has been a tremendous success! Mayfield Junior School truly loves reading and it shows! They’ve had three amazing author visits, a super-fun Family Night, extraordinary contests, the ever popular Donuts with Dads, and of course books, books and more books! This year Book Fair also partnered with sixth grade Reach Out efforts for Our Lady of Guadalupe School offering an opportunity to purchase books to benefit the school’s library. Reading really does save the day!

Author/Actor BJ Novak joined the fun.

Author/Actor BJ Novak was here on Friday, November 14 to read his #1 New York Times Bestseller “The Book with No Pictures” to grades K-4. Clever and wildly entertaining- it was a real treat to have Mr. Novak at MJS- the school even had a special cake in his honor! After such an exciting afternoon, the fun continued with Family Night at Book Fair. MJS thanks all who came out to support the event! MJS’ own super heroes, Mr. Gill and 8th grader Deanna Als took story time to new heights reading aloud to the crowd and the Concert Choir performance made the evening complete. Of course with all the book-buying going on, the fearless Girl Scout Troop #721 and its members’ gift wrapping skills were much appreciated.

Author Lisa See signing her book, "China Dolls"

On Monday, November 17, MJS welcomed best-selling authors Lisa See and Shannon Messenger. Lisa See was MJS’ featured author at the annual Parent Author Brunch. Her personal story and insight behind her latest book “China Dolls” fascinated parents and guests. Grades 4-8 were thrilled to meet author Shannon Messenger in the afternoon. She shared the inspiration behind her imaginative stories and encouraged hopeful writers in the group with details about the process of publishing her first book. Shannon was a big hit! Of course Book Fair would not be complete without our traditional Donuts with Dads and Special Friends. Everyone loves a little extra time with dad! Book Fair is one of our favorite events and MJS couldn’t do it without the amazing volunteers, the superhero librarians and MJS’ wonderful community.
