Mayfield Junior School: Native American Scholars

Mayfield Junior School’s elementary building was abuzz with excitement last week as the Third Grade exhibited their Native American projects to fellow students, faculty and parents. There were wonderful 3D representations of the homes, hunting weapons and regional geography of many Native American tribes. Several students recreated some traditional foods, offering samples to visitors and all included extra details via iPad slideshows. Student teams showed creativity, good collaboration and confident speaking skills in their presentations.

The Native American project is part of the third grade social studies curriculum. Combined with creative writing, art, field trips and the Native American Play, students expand their understanding of community and culture and learn to recognize and celebrate differences.
