Members of the 2017-18 Mayfield Junior School Student Council were formally installed at the Mass of the Holy Spirit in front of a standing-room only crowd in the Greg Smith Memorial Gymnasium.

A strong sense of community and pride was felt throughout the event. Former student council members and MJS alumni now freshmen in high schools throughout the San Gabriel Valley returned to campus to introduce this year’s student leadership team. One by one, alumni stepped to the podium to pass the proverbial torch. Thoughtful insight, and at times humorous advice, was shared with the audience culminating in the presentation of each position. Fr. Alan Phillip concluded the ceremony by leading the assembly in a collective blessing over the group.

From the first day of kindergarten continuing to eighth grade graduation, MJS weaves into its curriculum and places an emphasis on providing valuable leadership opportunities. Students develop public speaking, initiative, responsibility and collaborative decision-making to better serve their present and future communities.
