Mayfield Senior School Visual Arts Conservatory Students Exhibit Art at the LA Cathedral
Seven Mayfield Senior School students have been selected to be a part of the Robert Graham Memorial Student Art Exhibit at the Los Angeles Cathedral of our Lady of Angels.
According to the Cathedral, “Since medieval times, Cathedrals have served as the cultural heart of the community, and they have played a tremendous role as supporters and patrons of the arts.” The annual Robert Graham Student Art Exhibit has been named in honor of Robert Graham (1938-2008), a well-regarded Los Angeles-based sculptor and hopes to inspire young artists to create “works of art that will open the eyes of the mind and heart”. The extraordinary bronze doors featured in the Los Angeles Cathedral were crafted by Graham.
On Saturday March 3, 2013, this show opened with a Mass and special celebration. The show runs through the end of April and can be viewed at the Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. Photography teacher, Laura Parker describes the theme of the show as “Nature as a Sacred Mirror and Site of Divine Contemplation.”
