J. Muir High School Physical Education Coach/Athletic Director Milica Protic was born in Serbia. She speaks Serbian (similar to Russian). Her father worked for Pan-Am Airlines. He moved his family to Florida in 1980. What sparked the move? The 1984 Olympics of course! Milica’s father worked the Los Angeles Olympics; this ideal experience inspired him to move his family to Los Angeles, CA. Her mom was a Nurse in Serbia and her strong skill set transferred over to the LA metropolitan area. Milica’s mom speaks Russian, German, Serbian, & English. Her Dad speaks Italian too!

Milica has been the Athletic Director & Physical Education Teacher at John Muir for over nine years. Milica attended Cal State LA and earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Additionally, she earned her Master’s in Education from Chapman University. She graduated from Etiwanda High School, Class 1993. She has two magnificent boys 6 & 8 years old. Milica feels her challenge is to balance her Mom and AD duties. Without a doubt, she loves the challenge. Her best memory involved amazing track stars from J. Muir that stop in and visited the campus most recently. These athletes qualified for a CIF State Track meet held in Sacramento, CA. It was there, in that CIF moment that Milica learned reflected and galvanized the challenges of her athletes. It was not that they ran the 100 & 200 hurdles and placed high, but her student’s life challenges and the overcoming of those moments is what made an impression to stay true to her career choice.

Most recently that former athlete, 27 year old Kiani Profit visited her Coach with news. Kiani ran track in college and trained for the 2016 Olympics! Milica smiles, it was the journey to that moment that enlightened and crystallized her mission in life. She help kids in a real way and loves it!
