Muir Ranch’s “Birthday Bash” Farm-to-Table Roast

Muir Ranch will hold its “Birthday Bash” Farm-to-Table Roast on Saturday, September 27, 2014, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Muir Ranch (1905 Lincoln Avenue, Pasadena). Come to honor Mud (Mud Baron, Executive Director) for all of his hard work and dedication to Muir Ranch.

Featuring Guest Chef Ernest Miller while supper will be prepared on a wood grill that has been graciously loaned to Muir Ranch by its friends at Mexicali Taco!

Menu is being designed with select incredients grown at Muir Ranch and by farmers in Pasadena’s local good system.

Guests can park behind John Muir High School at 1905 N. Lincoln. Park in rear Student Lot, enter at La Canada Avenue. Heels are not recommended for Mulch Pathways.

Guests tax deductible dinner ticket purchase helps to support Muir Ranch’s summer internship program. The goal is to offer fully paid internships to 30 students this Summer. Each student will earn $600 for 8 weeks of work and the Ranch hopes to raise $18,000 to cover the cost of these internships.

About Muir Ranch

In 2011, a dedicated team of volunteer teachers and students began converting 1.5 acres of the John Muir High School campus into an urban farm. Muir Ranch grows a variety of flowers, vegetables and fruit that are included in weekly CSA boxes as well as school cafeteria lunches. Students can complete community service or internship graduation requirements by enrolling in classes at the Ranch. Muir Ranch also provides paid internships to students, which are funded by private donations, special events, farmer’s market sales, and subscriptions to the produce box program (CSA).

Many programs besides the CSA are supported under the umbrella of Muir Ranch. We partner with other local school and their learning gardens to provide them with produce for their own CSA programs, host monthly “Plug Mobs” to help the community start their own gardens, and are a Nursery Non-profit. Soon, we hope to add a culinary program, helping to fully connect students to their food systems by getting them involved in how it is grown, distributed, and finally cooked into healthy meals.
