Nerf Herder to Headline Aveson Charter School’s Seventh Annual June Jubilee

Aveson Charter Schools announced today that nerd core band, Nerf Herder, has signed on to perform at its Seventh Annual June Jubilee on June 1.

Self-described as ‘geek rock’, Nerf Herder is known for modern punk-style songs that are written with humorous, often juvenile pop culture-referencing lyrics. The band is most notorious for their 1997 single “Van Halen” and for composing and performing the theme song to the hit television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as appearing in the series’ final apocalyptic episode. Nerf Herder has toured all over the world with groups like Weezer, Reel Big Fish, Bloodhound Gang, No Use for a Name and The Vandals.

But it’s the band’s lead singer, Parry Gripp, who is grabbing headlines lately. Gripp is going on his sixth year as a YouTube sensation using his songwriting skills to create crazy music videos that are popular with adults and kids alike. Gripp’s YouTube channels have garnered over 100 million views with posts like “Girl Talking About Herself” and “Nom Nom Nom Nom” leading the way. The latter video features snacking animals set to music and has over 21 million views alone.

Gawker.com referred to Gripp as “the Weird Al Yankovic of YouTube…turning Internet-video disaster into visual punk rock.” In 2008, TIME Magazine included “Hamster On A Piano (Eating Popcorn)” in the number four spot on their list of top ten viral videos for the year. In July 2012, the National Geographic Kids website uploaded Gripp’s “Spooky Spider” video and last year he recorded the song “Backyard Hodge Podge” for a Phineas and Ferb episode of the same name.

The 7th Annual June Jubilee Celebration by Aveson Charter Schools will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014, 11:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Farnesworth Park ( 568 E. Mt. Curve Avenue, Altadena).
