Dear San Marino Unified School District Staff, Students, Parents and Community Members:

It is with tremendous excitement and enthusiasm that I announce San Marino High School, in partnership with Caltech, will be offering a new STEM Research Course for the 2018-19 school year!

During this year long course, students will travel to Caltech approximately twice per month and work under the direction of one of four professors. This honors-level course will be co-taught by our high school computer science and mathematics teachers, and will be offered to 20-25 juniors and seniors.

On Tuesday, February 20th, Caltech professors will meet with interested students and share the nature of their lab’s research. Students will then have an opportunity to complete an application for the course. This course will be UC approved.

Principal Dr. Issaic Gates stated, “There’s just no way to overstate this opportunity! Knowing next school year, SMHS students and teachers will define problems, conduct research, and design lab investigations at Caltech with Caltech Professors, shatter perceptions of what’s possible in public education!”
