Norma Coombs Elementary School Hosting White House Astronomy Night

Norma Coombs Elementary School, located in Pasadena, California at 2600 Paloma Drive, will join students, parents, educators and leaders from across the nation in hosting the “White House Astronomy Night.” Entrance into this free community event begins at 6 p.m., weather permitting. Free snacks will be provided, however, attendees should plan on brining extra money for food trucks on site.

The evening exploration under the stars will include telescopes for viewing. Astronomers from Cal Tech, Carnegie and Wilson Observatories will be available to instruct on use of the telescopes, guide discussions and answer questions.

Norma Coombs Principal, Dr. Jennifer Smith, commented, “this event is part of the science literacy program students participate daily at the school. “ The school curriculum includes a science lab where students conduct hands on experiments and actively engage in inquiry and study on how the world works. “This gathering encourages family, community, students and scientists to come together in an interactive learning environment. We’re pleased to be one of the host sites for this nationwide event, and to showcase the kind of learning going on at Norma Coombs,” shared Dr. Smith.

Stargazers can also view the live stream of activities happening simotaneously on the Whitehouse Lawn in Washington D.C. by visiting https://www.whitehouse.gov/live/white-house-astronomy-night.
