Palm Crest Elementary School: Generous PCR Families Support Blaney Through DonorsChoose.org

Click http://pcr30.weebly.com and find out why all systems are go in Emily Blaney’s third grade classroom. The website is stunning, but move your mouse to the last link on the left, the one that says, “Donors Choose Grant”. DonorsChoose is an online charity connecting giving people to classrooms in need. In 2012 alone, Blaney’s classroom has received nearly $1,300 in response to her requests for projects and materials, and much of the generosity comes from Palm Crest parents.

In February this year, Mrs. Blaney, who signs herself “Low Poverty” online, first posted a request for three thesauruses and 15 dictionaries. One Palm Crest family graciously filled the request. They responded so quickly that Donors Choose made her an offer to match funds for her next grant. Quickly Mrs. Blaney posted We’re Ready for Our Close-Up, a request for a classroom camcorder and tripod.

“Who doesn’t like to see themselves on the Big Screen?” she wrote. “ My students have given oral presentations throughout the school year. I’d like to make these presentations more meaningful for them.” Again, thanks to a Palm Crest family and an anonymous donor, her request was filled.

Thrilled, the third grade teacher plans to share these new materials with her grade level and the school as a whole.
