On Monday, October 1, 2018, Parker Watson Marshall Fundamental Class of 2014 Alumni, Posse Scholar, and Bucknell University Graduate met with Marshall student Posse Scholar Nominees.
Prior to the meeting Parker walked the halls of his alma mater, reminiscing, looking at memorabilia, and trophy cases. Following his meeting he made time to visit a few of his former teachers.
Parker sat down eight of the 16 Marshall Fundamental Posse Scholar Semi-Finalist for continental breakfast and conversation. The conversation included Parker talking about how his education at Marshall prepared him for college. He discussed his Posse Scholarship, his Posse Squad, and his Bucknell University experiences, along with his post graduate success.
At the time of the meeting, many of the Marshall Fundamental Posse Scholar Semi-finalist were scheduled to complete their second in person interview. Even with the casual conversation, you could feel the nervous energy in the room. However, the students mentioned that simply meeting with Parker made them comfortable and empowed. According to Posse Scholar Nominee, Marilyn Moya, “Talking with Parker provided me with a more detailed overview of what to expect in the interview, and the overall Posse experience. It made me more at ease during my interview, because I knew I could be myself.”
Currently, the semifinalists are all anxiously awaiting the results of their interviews, which they will receive sometime in November.
The Posse Foundation provides full-tuition to their selected scholars. The selected students are young leaders from diverse backgrounds, who might have traditionally been overlooked. “Over the course of three months, nominees experience Posse’s unique recruitment strategy, The Dynamic Assessment Process.” (https://www.possefoundation.org/recruiting-students).
If selected a Posse Scholar will be connected with, and attend one of the ten Posse Foundation Los Angeles partnered colleges and universities; Bucknell University, Dickinson College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Kalamazoo College, Middlebury College, Northwestern University, Pepperdine University, Tulane University, UC Berkeley, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Marshall Fundamental is excited for each of the students, as they await the possibility of being selected as one of the next Posse Scholars. Once a student is selected they get additional support in Pre-Collegiate Training, as well as, the Campus Program.
MFS thanks the Posse Foundation for being a Marshall Fundamental Community Partner and a great connection to its future leaders.
