Putting an exclamation point on its impact in the community, the South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF) hosted, according to many in the large crowd, one of its best Parti Gras events last Saturday night in the long history of the event.

Over the years, the event has grown both in stature and size, and this year’s spectacle, given the theme “A Night in Paris,” was no exception.

For some, it felt like an escape seeing a miniature Eiffel Tower in the middle of the fairway at the event’s site, the Arroyo Golf Course, while about 850 guests dined on food from a variety of restaurants and looked for bargains among the dozens of silent auction items to choose from during an evening providing ideal weather.

The culinary cavalcade featured 38 degrees, Bistro de la Gare, Gus’s Barbecue, Patakan, Huntington Catering Company, Trader Joe’s, Mike and Anne’s, Charlie’s Trio,New York Snow, Sweet Cupcake, Rastataco, Starbucks, Panda Inn, Vino, Radhika, Cindy’s, Ami Catering & Events, Aro, Heirloom, Firefly, Fantasy Frostings, Crossings, Twohey’s, Menchie’s, El Cholo Cafe and Crepe Studio.

SPEF is the fundraising arm for the South Pasadena Unified School District and annually raises about $500,000 to benefit local students.
