Pasadena Unified 2016-2017 Open Enrollment is Jan. 12 – Feb. 2, 2016



Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) annual Open Enrollment for the 2016-2017 academic year begins Jan. 12, 2016, when applications can be submitted online through Feb. 2, 2016, at www.2016.openenrollment.info. PUSD’s Open Enrollment offers families an opportunity to apply to themed, magnet, or specialized schools and programs outside the boundaries of their school of residence. Families can apply for PUSD’s Dual Language Immersion Programs in Spanish and Mandarin, International Baccalureate, STEM, visual and performing arts, high school college and career academies, and much more.

“Open Enrollment is an opportunity for families to select the Pasadena Unified School District as their first choice in education,” said Superintendent Brian McDonald, Ed.D. “PUSD schools offer dynamic choices for all families, whether they have children who are entering kindergarten, middle or high school.”

Selection is by lottery and notifications are made Feb. 29 with registration in March. A second lottery and registration for any remaining spots will take place in April. For a calendar of dates and further information, visit 2016.openenrollment.info.

Information sessions are scheduled Jan. 9 – 13, 2016. Spanish translation will be available at all sessions. Fresh fruit and produce from PUSD school farms will be also be provided as refreshments to showcase students’ work and the district’s farm-to-school approach, which promotes healthy habits, hands-on science learning opportunities, and environmental stewardship.

Orientation to Middle School
Presented by PUSD Middle School Principals
Parents and students are encouraged to attend this special early evening presentation designed for families of children getting ready to transition to middle school. Middle school, a pivotal point in determining long-term student success, is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a short period in time. Principals from Pasadena Unified School District middle schools will preview your choices and describe the components of excellent middle schools with opportunities for questions and answers.

Following introductions by Chief Academic Officer Dr. Shawn Bird and high school principals, PUSD seniors representing distinctive programs at the secondary level will cover everything from class schedules and workload to leadership opportunities and college aspirations. The session will also include a chance for an informal chat. Come learn firsthand about College & Career Academies, dual enrollment with Pasadena City College, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and much more.
