The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) and Pasadena Chapter 434 of the California School Employees Association (CSEA) are pleased to announce the signing of a tentative agreement.

The tentative agreement calls for a 3% salary increase for all CSEA bargaining unit salary schedules retroactive to July 1, 2015, and a 2% salary increase effective July 2016 for the next school year. This will result in an ongoing 5% salary increase effective July 2016.

This agreement comes after a comprehensive review of the district’s budget.
“It was never a question of whether CSEA members would get a raise; it was a matter of how much we could afford and how soon we could make it happen,” said Board of Education President Dr. Elizabeth Pomeroy. “With this in mind, the Board agreed to include equity language for classified employees in the tentative agreement.”

CSEA Chapter 434 will ask their membership to ratify the Agreement at their scheduled April 20, 2016 meeting. The district will conduct the first public reading of the Tentative Agreement at a Special Meeting of the Board on April 14, 2016. The second and final public reading will occur at the regularly scheduled Board meeting on April 24, 2016. CSEA members are expected to receive retroactive paychecks in June of 2016.

CSEA Chapter 434 has 650 members largely employed as clerical, instructional aides, district security, health clerks, and community assistants assigned to school sites and the District’s Educational Center. Members last received a 3% salary increase in 2014.
“I believe this settlement is fair and in keeping with our ultimate goal of representing the needs and best interests of our members,” stated Buddy Renzullo, CSEA Chapter 434 President.

Superintendent Brian McDonald commented, “We are fortunate to have dedicated employees here at PUSD who are committed to providing excellent services to students, families, and staff. Classified employees play a vital role in the operations of our schools. We believe this agreement recognizes their immense contributions to student success in the Pasadena Unified School District. We are also working hard to align the district’s resources with the needs of our students. This agreement does both.”
