McKinley School Students Hold Art to be Displayed at No Boundaries

In celebration of National Arts Education Month in March, the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) will be highlighting student creativity all month long. The festivities kick off with the opening of the No Boundaries 10 student art exhibition and will also include All-District Elementary and Secondary Music Festivals and PUSD’s participation in ArtNight Pasadena. All events are free and open to the public.

No Boundaries is the districtwide exhibition of student visual and performing art in PUSD. Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the exhibit features more than 400 pieces of two and three dimensional student artwork representing every school in the district. The title “No Boundaries” refers to the exhibit’s objective of showcasing student artwork without limits to the size or media used as well as the unlimited creative potential of students in PUSD.

The exhibition will be held at 345 S. Lake Avenue, in The Shops on Lake. The opening reception for No Boundaries takes place Friday, February 27 from 6 p.m.- 9 pm with live student performances and appearances by the artists.

PUSD is also an official partner of ArtNight Pasadena, which takes place Friday, March 13. No Boundaries will be a shuttle stop during ArtNight and student and faculty performances will be offered throughout the evening.

Music programs will also be trumpeted in March and April. The PUSD All-District Secondary Music Festivals will be held on March 5th (Choral) and March 6th (Band & Orchestra). These festivals will bring together over 1000 students in bands, orchestras and choirs from schools across the district. Guest conductors from Pasadena City College, Azusa Pacific University and Pasadena Symphony as well as PUSD staff will conduct the performances. The music festivals will take place at Pasadena High School, with the Choral Festival beginning at 7 p.m. on March 5th, and the Band & Orchestra Festival beginning at 6:30 p.m. on March 6th.

Not to be outdone, PUSD’s younger students will participate in the All-District Elementary Music Festival Thursday, April 2nd at 6:30 p.m. at Wilson Middle School. Hundreds of students from elementary schools across the district will be brought together to perform including an honor band, an honor orchestra and a beginning string orchestra.
