Pasadena Unified Offers Expanded Transitional Kindergarten

Children who turn five between Dec. 5, 2015, and June 2, 2016, can attend full-day expanded transitional kindergarten starting Jan. 5, 2016, as the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) extends its early education program. PUSD’s thriving Transitional kindergarten is a full-day developmentally appropriate program that bridges the gap between preschool and kindergarten for children born in the fall. Until now, Transitional kindergarten had been limited to children with fall birthdays, between Sept. 3 and Dec. 2.

“We are pleased to offer enhanced choices for families to ensure that their children enter kindergarten with the skills and confidence to excel,” said PUSD Superintendent Brian McDonald, Ed.D. “Early childhood education sets the stage for college and career readiness and PUSD is teaming up with parents to get children ready to learn and succeed in school.”

Families are invited to register their children for Expanded Transitional kindergarten at the PUSD Office of Enrollment, Permits & Student Records (located at 351 S. Hudson Ave., Room 210, Pasadena) to coordinate placement on the following dates and times:

• Tuesday – Thursday, Dec. 8 – 10, 2015 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
• Tuesday – Thursday, Dec. 15 – 17, 2015 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Transitional kindergarten is currently offered at seven PUSD campuses. Placement is based on residence.

• Jefferson Elementary
• Longfellow Elementary
• Madison Elementary
• McKinley School
• Norma Coombs Elementary School
• Washington Elementary STEM Magnet School
• Willard Elementary School
