Pasadena Unified Offers Summer School for Current and Incoming High School Students

The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) will be offering a number of resources for incoming and current high school students and parents this spring and summer.

Summer school applications for incoming and current high school students are available at secondary school sites beginning Monday, March 23. Courses will be taught using direct instruction, blended learning, and online methods. Admission for summer school classes are on a first come first served basis. Applications must be submitted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the CIS Academy located at 2925 East Sierra Madre Boulevard in Pasadena (next to Pasadena High School on Washington Boulevard). Students need to consult with their academic counselor before submitting an application.

To help satisfy this requirement of health being a required course for graduation for the class of 2019, PUSD will be offering incoming ninth grade students multiple health classes on varying days and times throughout the summer. Incoming high school students can also take a summer math bridge course to prepare for high school mathematics classes. Remediation courses in core academic subjects as well as a preparatory class for the California High School Exit Exam will also be offered.

Parents whose children are entering high school next fall can learn how to support the transition to high school during three classes that are part of this spring’s Thursday Morning Series at the district’s Family Resource Center. On Thursday, March 26 at 8:15 a.m., counselors will provide a roadmap for parents during “High School 101,” a one-hour presentation for parents that includes a discussion on the district’s new graduation requirements.

There will be high school themed parent classes in April. Thursday, April 9 at 9:00 a.m., the interactive “Transcripts” workshop will show parents how to look at transcripts to determine which classes students need to take or which credits they need to recover in order to graduate on time.

On Thursday, April 16 at 9:00 a.m., counselors will walk parents through Naviance, the college and career planning software now used at district middle high schools that helps parents and students research and make decisions about high school courses, colleges and careers.

Parent classes are held at the PUSD Family Resource Center, located at 351 S. Hudson Ave., Room 121, Pasadena. All classes are free and open to the public. Spanish translation is provided. For more information, please call (626) 396-3606 or familycenter@pusd.us.

Presentations are posted online at www.pusd.us after each class.
