Pasadena Unified Presents Two Parent Seminars
The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) debuts its 2014-2015 parent education program next week with two parent seminars.
On Tuesday, October 7 at 9:00 a.m., PUSD presents Make Learning Fun!, a 90-minute interactive workshop for parents of kindergarten and first grade students. Taught by PUSD early education teachers, the workshop includes daily practices and research-based strategies that parents can use at home to bolster foundational academic skills. Make Learning Fun! will take place at Washington Elementary STEM Magnet, 1520 North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena.
On Wednesday, October 8 at 5:30 p.m., the district hosts The Common Core for Parents, a seminar where parents can learn how California’s adoption of the common core standards and PUSD’s focus on transferable skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity have changed the way that students learn. The Common Core for Parents will be in the McKinley School Library, 325 South Oak Knoll Avenue, Pasadena.
Both sessions are free and open to all PUSD parents. Spanish translation will be provided at both seminars and childcare will be available at the Common Core seminar.
The seminars are the first in a series of parent education classes sponsored by PUSD’s Family Resource Center. The 2014-2015 parent education seminar series is designed to support PUSD parents so that they, in turn, can support their children’s education. Among the topics covered this year are early childhood education, planning for college, the Common Core standards, technology, school climate and the transitions to elementary, middle and high school. PUSD’s Family Resource Center supports parents, teachers and staff in building partnerships for student achievement.
