Pasadena Unified School District to Celebrate the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) students, staff, community members and officials will commemorate the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday this weekend on the campus of Franklin Elementary School and off-campus in the annual King Holiday Celebration.

Franklin Elementary School will host “A Day On, Not Off” on January 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This will be a morning of campus beautification, landscaping and planting. The event is designed to encourage individuals to improve their community to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King. “We are pleased to welcome the community to Franklin Elementary School to remember Dr. King and live out his legacy in service to our community,” said Principal Caroline Bermudez. “Our community will join with others across the nation to honor Dr. King by physically improving our surroundings, showing acts of kindness or reaching out to help those in need.” The beautification activities will be followed by a program with entertainment from Franklin students and brief remarks by local leaders.

On Monday, Jan. 20, PUSD students, families, officials and staff will also participate in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration at Jackie Robinson Park sponsored by the Pasadena Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Coalition. During the celebration, student winners of the MLK Community Coalition Essay and Art Contest will be honored.
