Polytechnic School: A Penny for Your Socks

During a cross-division activity, first-graders were assisted by seventh-graders last Friday as they counted the money raised during the annual first-grade penny drive. Later this month, first-graders will use the funds to buy socks, underwear, and pajamas for the Kids Kloset in Families in Transition.

This community outreach project was started more than a decade ago when Polytechnic School teachers read an article about a pair of brothers in the area who could not both attend school on the same days because they had to share clothes. It was suggested that the students collect pennies to purchase necessities for needy families. And so it continues.
