On Tuesday, May 8th the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, the Stadium’s 501c3 non-profit organization, Honda and the Pasadena Unified School District, bring to a close another successful season of the “Honda Field Trip to the Field” program. This program, which launched in the fall of 2016, skyrocketed the push for physical education and excitement for history with current seventh graders across the Pasadena Unified School District. This year alone, over 1,400 PUSD students have participated in Honda’s Field Trip to the Field.
The students not only participated in a structured physical education activity, but also took a tour through the historic Rose Bowl, America’s Stadium. The tour was led by professional docents, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the history and pageantry of the National Historic Landmark. The day’s activities concluded with a delicious and healthy lunch provided by Legends Wolfgang Puck, sitting underneath the iconic, Rose Bowl Stadium marquee.
This year, an exciting new element has been added to the program. Jesse LaBeau, an actor, street ball player and motivational speaker, welcomed the students upon arrival at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Jesse travels around the country speaking with today’s youth about his own life experiences, with the hope to inspire others to continue to follow their dreams. After a successful first year of the PE teachers leading the 30-minute activity on the field, they were joined by volunteers from 24 Hour Fitness and Pasadena Fire Fighters. These volunteers assisted the teachers in showing the young students that it’s important to remain active throughout your adulthood, and provided a structured and engaging program to get the students moving. The Rose Bowl Stadium, Legacy Foundation and Honda, strongly believe that by engaging Jesse LaBeau and these community members, the students left the Rose Bowl Stadium with an even stronger appreciation for Pasadena, and a newfound excitement for life ahead.
The dates of this year’s tours were as follows:
January 24th – Sierra Madre Middle School
February 22nd – Wilson Elementary School
March 7th – Washington Elementary School
March 13th & 14th – Marshall Fundamental Secondary School
