Ramona Convent Secondary School: East Coast Spring Break College Tour

Students at Ramona Convent Secondary School always manage to keep themselves busy over Spring Break with things like catching up on sleep, working, spring cleaning, traveling, and more. This year, a large group of motivated 9th, 10th, and 11th graders took their time off from school as an opportunity to visit East Coast colleges on a school-sponsored trip arranged through IST Campus Tours by their Guidance Counselor, Mr. Alberto Chavarria. Mr. Chavarria shares “it gives the girls an eye-opening experience from the moment they set foot on each campus. It gives a realistic insight into the college environment and how it relates to the personality of each student.” When meeting with students, he explains that “students in all grades can attend these amazing trips and it’s never too early to attend a college tour. This is their chance to be inspired and get motivated.”

The recent 5-day tour took students to 8 different East Coast schools and included travel to local sight-seeing and tourist destinations near the colleges, accommodations, food, and fun. Students also enjoyed visiting with Ramona alumna, Ivana Castro ’14, who gave advice and answered many questions about her experience on the East Coast as she is currently studying Political Science at Wellesley College. As the trip came to an end, all in attendance came home with a wealth of knowledge they will carry with them as they continue the college search and application process.

Ramona Convent is a school for girls in grades 9 – 12 that is set apart by a rich curriculum, expansive selection of college preparatory and AP/Honors courses, comprehensive co-curricular programs, and a welcoming community. Students travel through four years of high school with the support of spirited friends and expert, caring, and engaged teachers while surrounded by the inspiring beauty of a college-like campus.
