Ramona Convent Students Participates in Youth Theology Institute at Loyola Marymount University
Last week, Ramona Convent Secondary School’s rising juniors and seniors attended the Youth Theology Institute (YTI) at Loyola Marymount University. Theology Teachers Mrs. Lopez and Ms. Herrera, Ramona’s new addition to the Theology Department, were leaders (with others) for this LMU project. Mrs. Lopez is a grad student of the University and Ms. Herrera recently completed her Masters in Theology.
YTI students engaged in theological dialogue about the nature of God, systematic structures of injustice, complexity of theological ethics and the nature of evil. They observed and participated in different cultural expressions of Catholicism with the Kateri Circle (Native American Catholics) and St. Agatha’s Church (predominately Latinx and Black Catholics) and also learned about Catholic social teaching by addressing homelessness, plastic pollution and criminal justice awhile doing service. They arrived on Monday, June 17 and finished on Friday, June 21 with a presentation of their learning and experiences. Mrs. Alvarez and Sr. Daleen attended the final presentations.
