San Marino Unified Board of Education Seeking New Members for Academics Advisory Committee (AAC)

The Board of Education of the San Marino Unified School District is inviting applications to fill up to seven (7) vacancies on the District’s Academics Advisory Committee (AAC).

The Committee’s mission is to support and advise the Board of Education by, pursuant to the Board’s direction, researching and evaluating policies and programs that optimize the TK-12 student academic experience. The Committee consists of persons who are willing to volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of San Marino students, including parents of current or former students, alumni, and teachers. In addition, the Committee includes ex officio representatives from the Board of Education, the Superintendent’s office and SMHS teachers. The Committee’s focus areas for the 2017-2018 school year were: (1) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), (2) Homework Policy, and (3) College/Career Readiness. The Committee’s focus areas for the 2018-2019 school year will be set by the Board in August.

Committee members shall be residents of the District, employed within District boundaries, or have a student enrolled in the District. Members serve a three-year term and attend regular meetings, quarterly, on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. during the school year and monthly sub-committee meetings at 3pm. Members may also serve on ad hoc subcommittees related to the Committee’s focus areas.

Persons interested in serving during the 2018-2021 school years should complete the online Advisory Committee Application ( outlining their background and any special interests or skills that they believe will contribute to the Committee’s mission.
