After conducting a state-wide search, the San Marino Unified School District Superintendent and Board of Education are pleased to announce that Mr. Richard Barclay has been selected to succeed Mrs. Alana Faure as the new Assistant Principal of Huntington Middle School, effective August 1. Mrs. Faure was promoted to the Principal post in June.
Most recently, Mr. Barclay served as Principal of Goethe International Elementary School. He has held administrative assignments in the Culver City and Beverly Hills School Districts. Prior to earning his administrative credential, he served as a math and science teacher at Medea Creek Middle School in the Oak Park Unified School District.
Superintendent Alex Cherniss said, “Mr. Barclay is an experienced administrator with a proven track record of success. With his focus on diverse personalized learning experiences, student social-emotional learning and mindfulness, campus safety and a positive school-wide culture, I am confident that he will provide the support and leadership necessary to continue the legacy of excellence at Huntington Middle School.”
When asked about his new position, Mr. Barclay said, “I am looking forward to becoming part of the Huntington Middle School administration and becoming an integral member of the San Marino community. I am excited to be part of a professional team where it puts student learning first and understands that, it does take a village to raise our children. It will take all of us, in order for all of our children, to become confident, productive members in our diverse and ever-changing global society. Success for ALL takes us ALL.”
Principal Faure said, “Mr. Barclay was selected from a pool of 75 candidates. He has extensive experience working in high performing schools. Mr. Barclay has a demonstrated commitment to working with teachers, staff, students, and the community to continuously improve school culture, curriculum, and the quality of education. These are all characteristics that align with HMS core values. Mr. Barclay’s experience and passion for middle school students make him the ideal Assistant Principal for Huntington Middle School.”
Mr. Barclay has a Master’s Degree from Cal State Northridge and a Bachelor’s Degree from Pennsylvania State University. He is married and his wife is expecting their first child.
