Southwestern Adventures Another Summertime Success

Enjoying travels, cultural experiences, and classroom enrichment all combined with fun, 65 boys and girls from all over the United States and from around the globe started the Summer Adventures Program at Southwestern Academy in San Marino and at the prep school’s Northern Arizona ranch campus.

For the 91st summer, the Southwestern Adventures helps students study to meet academic needs, travel on frequent field trips, and participate in daily after school sports and activities.

Southwestern Adventures differs from the regular school year offering specific educational programs to students from grades 7th -12th, an intimate classroom setting and an education filled with fun excitement and exceptional activities. Students enjoy their summer by exploring new opportunities in and out of the classroom. This summer, students have experienced both educational and fun outings, such as The Getty Museum, Disneyland, The Lowell Observatory, and Out of Africa.

Students really enjoy while benefitting from the unique programs. Adam Brown, an 11th grader from Los Angeles said, “I enjoy the summer program more than any other. Fewer students attend summer, which allows me to benefit from one on one attention from teachers.” Venny Chen, a 17 year old Chinese girl, expressed that she learns more during the Southwestern Adventures, especially on the field trips, which allow her to experience different educational experiences that are available in Southern California and represent American culture.

In addition to specialized programs, Southwestern Academy is a school with defined integrity and successful global ethos. The 2014 Southwestern Adventures saw students from the United States, Canada, Russia, Germany, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Japan, China and Vietnam. They met at Southwestern Academy and learned to interact with pupils from different cultures. The diverse student body at Southwestern Academy expands students’ cultural horizons, helps to create global citizens, and generates opportunities for friendships that stretch across international borders.

“It’s interesting, being a student at Southwestern Academy,” said Kristina Glushkova from Russia, “I am able to make friends from foreign countries and work on my English speaking skills at the same time.” Like Kristina, Adam also enjoys meeting and interacting with students from different parts of the world. This past spring, Adam traveled to Korea (with a friend he made at Southwestern Academy) and emphasized how much he enjoyed the culture and friendly people.

Southwestern Academy welcomes domestic and international students from around the globe to experience the incredible Southwestern Adventures Program. Whether a student attends the San Marino campus in Southern California or Beaver Creek campus in Northern Arizona, Southwestern Adventures is where students excel, grow, and where they truly belong.
