St. Monica Academy Speaker Series Presents The Crusades: The Christian “Just War” or Just Another European Aggression?

St. Monica Academy cordially invites you to attend a talk by Michael Grumbine, “The Crusades: The Christian “Just War” or Just Another European Aggression?”.

“Is our easy, modern condemnation of the Crusades warranted? Unsurprisingly, much error has crept into our understanding of these pivotal, ultimately unsuccessful wars to recapture the Holy Land. The Crusades have much to teach us about the roots of western Catholicism, about the development of “just war” principles, about concepts of chivalry, and about maintaining a healthy caution for historical snap judgments.”

Begin 2019 with a look back to the world of 1119, and bring a friend! St. Monica Academy (SMA) parent and Crusades scholar Michael Grumbine will offer attendees a fascinating evening a general history of the Crusades, followed up by an in-depth look at the First and Third Crusades and an examination of their moral implications on Friday, January 11, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

St. Monica Academy., 2361 Del Mar Rd., Montrose CA 91020, (818) 369-7310 or visit www.stmonicaacademy.com.
