St. Monica Academy’s Girls Basketball Team Second Highest GPA in Southern Section

According to a CIF Southern Section report released on March 23, St. Monica Academy’s girls’ basketball team earned the second highest team GPA of more than 500 girls’ basketball teams in the section. With a GPA of 3.88 (4.0 scale), the team beat out every other Pasadena area school.

“These girls work extremely hard, both in school and on the court,” says coach Colleen Smith, “and that’s why they’re such a pleasure to coach.”

The Crusaders’ hard work paid off again this year as they claimed their third consecutive league title and reached the quarterfinals of CIF-SS playoffs for the third year in a row.

“Watching them play,” says Board President Martin Boles, “you could see it was not just raw talent, but rather well-coached teamwork, that made our defense impenetrable and our offensive plays smooth.”

St. Monica Academy, an independent, Catholic, coeducational school for grades 1-12, is at the forefront of a renaissance in classical education, a time-honored method of teaching that inspires students to excel academically and morally. Founded by parents in 2001, the school provides 242 students in grades 1-12 with an academically rigorous education using a classical curriculum.
