The Gooden School Celebrates International Day of Peace with Chalk4Peace

On Thursday, September 19 The Gooden School, an independent K-8 Episcopal school in Sierra Madre, will mark its 7th consecutive year of celebrating the International Day of Peace, which falls on September 21. John Aaron, founder of Chalk4Peace (www.chalk4peace.org and www.chalk4peace.blogspot.com), makes it his priority to join the school community every year for this school-wide celebration.

The morning will begin in the Sandra Towner Memorial Garden with a chapel service which will highlight students singing songs of peace and offering prayers of peace for the world. After chapel, the students will join their Big Buddies and Little Buddies and chalk symbols of peace on pathways throughout the school campus. “We started Chalk4Peace on our campus in 2007, because we believe that the Chalk4peace mission aligns with Gooden’s school mission to find ways that advocate for peace not only in our classrooms but also around the globe. Also, The Gooden School and Chalk4Peace both believe in the importance and value of the arts in a child’s educational experience. The arts are an integral part of a Gooden education and are very important when it comes to educating the whole child,” comments Patty Patano, Head of School.

Founded in 1975, The Gooden School offers a classical education for the 21st century. Reflecting Gooden’s high academic standards, reputation for the arts and service learning, school graduates are accepted by many of the finest independent high schools in the area, including Campbell Hall, Flintridge Prep, La Salle High School, St. Francis, Mayfield Senior, Westridge, and Loyola.
